This week, the Centre hosted the first of three skill-building seminars for the mentees taking part in the project, “Mentoring for Austrian Muslim Women – Global Citizens at Work.” The project is organized by the BKMC in partnership with Muslim Youth Austria (MJÖ). The seminar was led by BKMC CEO Monika Froehler and was on the topic of “Global Citizenship.” During the seminar, the mentees discussed the qualities that are required to be a good leader as well as global citizenship and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The seminar also included a group challenge where participants were asked to suggest projects for the SDGs and to think out-of-the-box to overcome initial financial obstacles. The groups proved that they could think creatively and innovatively to overcome hurdles in working for the SDGs. At the end of the workshop, a project was introduced to be carried out between each mentee and mentor over the course of the coming months. Each mentoring pair will have the responsibility of completing one small global citizenship project, for example, volunteering together, participating in a clean-up day, or organizing another contribution related to the SDGs and the concept of global citizenship. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project focused on women’s empowerment and reducing inequalities!
