Since 2018, the Ban Ki-moon Centre has been offering Global Citizen Scholarships for youth to attend European Forum Alpbach in Tyrol, Austria. These “GC Scholars” are nationals of countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
To be selected as a GC Scholar, applicants must show that they are active global citizens in their communities. Whether founding their own NGOs or participating in leadership roles in already established youth and women’s empowerment organizations, selected scholars display outstanding dedication to the principles of global citizenship.
During the Forum, the scholars have a busy schedule, including opportunities to engage face-to-face with the Ban Ki-moon Centre’s Board and Co-chairs. Scholars are also responsible for preparing and pitching a “Global Citizen Project” related to one or more the SDGs. After presenting their projects to an expert panel, scholars are awarded with a certificate of achievement.
