Supported by Dubai Cares, in collaboration with Plan International and Unbounded Associates, the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC) has been successfully running the “Your Future in Green Jobs” Online Course and Mentorship Program for two years. Designed to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to pursue meaningful green careers, this initiative empowers youth to align their passions and interests with career paths that directly address climate change.
The Mentorship Program, tailored for youth aged 14 to 20, builds on the foundation of the “Your Future in Green Jobs” Online Course. By bridging theory with practice, it connects young learners with experts, fostering real-world insights into the growing green economy.
The BKMC is thrilled to celebrate the successful completion of the first cohort of the “Your Future in Green Jobs” Mentorship Program! From May to November 2024, 22 mentees actively participated in expert-led workshops, received one-on-one mentorship from green job practitioners, and implemented their own Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Micro-Projects. An impressive 19 mentees completed the entire program, leading impactful initiatives across the globe.
Their innovative projects span diverse sustainability challenges – from an online green career platform to a climate-focused school in Pakistan, a sustainable fashion initiative in Indonesia/Saudi Arabia, a mangrove reforestation project in Bangladesh, waste management education for children in Ugandan slums, and efforts to expand clean cooking access in Ghana. These young changemakers are proving that green careers are not just the future – they are the present.
Mentees not only applied their green skills in practice but also reached a total number of over 1,75 million people through in-person workshops and digital campaigns.
